Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, an organization of US-based corporate general counsel and law firm managing partners, is dedicated to creating a truly diverse legal profession. DLA Piper is one of the founding members of LCLD, and our co-managing partner in the Americas, Stasia Kelly, serves as secretary to the board. We are also an active participant in the LCLD's 1L Scholars Program, Law School Mentoring ProgramPathfinders Program, and Fellows Program.

The Diversity and Flexibility Alliance studies work/life integration issues and solutions to address challenges in creating inclusive environments that develop and promote diverse lawyers. Our global co-chair emeritus, partner Lee Miller, is part of a working group within the Alliance focused on developing and delivering best practices for flexible work arrangements in the legal industry.

The Ron Brown Scholar Program provides scholars with the financial resources to attend some of the finest colleges and universities in the country. We are pleased to support the funding of scholarships and to provide internships to Ron Brown scholars.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships in conjunction with a comprehensive set of skills and opportunities to disadvantaged students of color to ensure their success in college and to develop their leadership potential.

Supporting scholarship

The Posse Foundation identifies, recruits, and develops public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential to receive four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse's partner institutions of higher education. DLA Piper lawyers participate in the rigorous selection process.

Strengthening relationships

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in Australia features 14 key actions aimed at building stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organizations. We collaborate with Westpac Group on our approach to implementing RAP, developing projects aimed at increasing cultural awareness and community cohesiveness.

We are a founding member of UK initiative PRIME, a project supported by the Law Society and the Sutton Trust. Our Senior Elected Board Member, Janet Legrand, is a director and trustee of PRIME, which aims to give young people from under-privileged backgrounds access to quality legal work experience. As part of our commitment to PRIME and our wider global initiative Break into Law, we facilitate work experience projects in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

We are a signatory of the Law Society Diversity and Inclusion Charter in the UK. We also have representation on the Law Society Equality and Diversity forum, which provides an opportunity to meet regularly with diversity professionals from the other top 10 law firms to share best practices and adopt a collaborative approach to increasing diversity across the profession.

We have partnered with Aspiring Solicitors, an organization which shares our goal of increasing diversity in the legal profession. We have hosted a series of CV writing workshops and employability skills workshops held in partnership with some of our key clients, and some of our lawyers have been mentors and advisors to potential trainees.
