DLA Piper's Baltimore office hosts Segue Roundtable on Inclusive Leadership
DLA Piper hosted an executive roundtable focused on fostering diverse workplaces and inclusive communities on March 30, 2016, in the firm's Baltimore office.
Convened by The Vernā Myers Company, the event, "Inclusive Leadership: Making Change Possible from the CSuite to the Main Street," was designed to help leaders cultivate and encourage inclusion in business environments, as well as within their own communities.
"Many executives are pained by the racial tensions, disparities and injustices they witness in society, but struggle with what their institutions can do to make a positive difference," said Vernā Myers, Founder and Chief Cultural Innovator of The Vernā Myers Company. "It was energizing to see this group of influential and forward-looking leaders come together for an open and honest dialogue about systemic racism and its impact on their institutions and the places where they operate. I’m grateful to DLA Piper for hosting this event and for the firm’s ongoing focus on promoting diversity, inclusion and equity in the many communities it serves."
The event brought together speakers and attendees from the business, legal, academic, law enforcement and non-profit communities of Baltimore, as well as from around the country. Sessions focused on how Inclusive Leaders can cultivate environments where people of all backgrounds feel respected and are given fair access to meaningful opportunity, and spur lasting change.
"This conversation comes at a particularly important time, in light of recent racial protests and racial inequities in our society," said Roger Meltzer, global co-chair and co-chair of the Americas for DLA Piper, who delivered welcome remarks at the event. "We’ve worked with Vernā on previous projects, including a well-received event on race relations last year in Southern California. When she asked us to sponsor a roundtable in her hometown, and in a city in which our firm has deep roots, we saw it as a great opportunity to further our commitment to diversity in the workplace and in our larger community."
